The William W. Heusner Endowed Scholarship was established in 2003 by Eleanor, Gay, Ann, and Lynn Heusner and friends and colleagues.

Bill Heusner, MSU professor from 1962 to 1989, was known internationally for research in kinesiology, sports medicine, and exercise physiology. Bill was selected as an MSU Distinguished Professor in 1975 because of his research contributions and in recognition of exceptional teaching. Bill’s avocation was competitive swimming. He was a national swimming champion and 1948 Olympian. Bill continued to contribute to the sport of swimming as a coach (including service as an Olympic team coach in 1962), then later through his research in kinesiology and sports medicine, and as head referee at the MSU and Big Ten meets for forty years.

The William W. Heusner Endowed Fellowship was established in 2003 to recognize outstanding graduate students who are pursuing a master's or doctoral degree in the Department of Kinesiology with an emphasis in exercise physiology.
