The Ronnie P. Barnes Student Athletic Trainer and Leadership Award was established in 1998.

Ronnie Barnes earned his M.S. degree at MSU, where he was a student athletic trainer. His current position is Vice President for Medical Services for the New York Giants; formerly he was the team’s head athletic trainer. Mr. Barnes is one of the most respected athletic trainers in the country, having served in a variety of leadership roles in the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), the NATA Board of Certification, and the Professional Athletic Trainers Society. Mr. Barnes has lectured nationally and internationally on sports medicine and is a co-author of the popular textbook, Athletic Training and Sports Medicine. He has received numerous prestigious awards for his contributions.
Description
The Ronnie P. Barnes Award was established in 2002 and is presented to the undergraduate student athletic trainer who has demonstrated outstanding achievements and leadership in support of undergraduate athletic training at Michigan State University.
Application Procedures
All undergraduate student athletic trainers are considered for this award. The award is presented by the Michigan State University Athletic Training Staff and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
