The Henry J. and Betty Montoye Endowed Scholarship was established in 2000 by the Montoye family.

Henry Montoye was MSU’s first exercise physiologist, joining the faculty in 1949. He and colleagues established the Human Energy Research Laboratory, a research center for exercise physiology faculty and students. Subsequently he served on the faculties at the Universities of Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Monty’s service to the profession includes ACSM President and a lifetime of research on physical activity, behavioral epidemiology, and public health.
Betty Montoye received a bachelor’s degree in education from Indiana University. She taught physical education for two years in the public schools and since has been a volunteer in schools, senior citizen centers, and the literacy council.
Description
The Montoye scholarship is presented to students who intend to teach physical education at the K-12 level who are seniors or fifth year (internship level) in the Department of Kinesiology. Applicants must submit a written statement about why they wish to teach physical education.
