The Michael W. Straus Student Academic Excellence and Achievement Award was established in 2002 by Michael W. Straus.

Michael Straus received his undergraduate degree from MSU and his graduate degree from Emory University. He served two years as an athletic trainer at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, four years as a physician assistant at MSU's Olin Health Center, and is now employed as an athletic trainer and PA C at the MSU Sports Medicine Clinic/Department of Radiology. His current responsibilities include serving as a physician assistant to MSU intercollegiate athletic teams. Dr. Straus frequently creates opportunities for MSU students to "shadow" him at the MSU Sports Medicine Clinic to learn more about becoming a physician assistant.
Description
These awards are presented to student athletic trainers who have demonstrated outstanding academic excellence and achievement at Michigan State University. The awards, initiated in 2002, are presented by Michigan State University Sports Medicine Staff.
Application Procedures
All undergraduate student athletic trainers are considered for this award. The award is presented by the Michigan State University Athletic Training Staff and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
