Why Study Exercise Science

The Department of Kinesiology offers undergraduate majors in athletic training and kinesiology. There are two emphases within the kinesiology major, namely exercise science and physical education teacher education. Study in exercise science opens the doors to many opportunities including: (a) careers in coaching, personal training, health promotion, sports administration, and sports journalism; (b) graduate study in areas such as athletic training, adapted physical activity, biomechanics, coaching, exercise physiology, growth and motor development, sport psychology, sport sociology, sport administration, and student-athlete development; and (c) professional study in medically-related fields such as medicine, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.

The Department of Kinesiology has an agreement with Central Michigan University that "fast tracks" up to three MSU students into the CMU Doctor of Physical Therapy program each year.
