Physical Education Teacher Education Degree Requirements
The physical education teaching emphasis within the bachelor of science degree in kinesiology is
designed for undergraduate students who plan to become physical education teachers. The degree
requirements and associated courses for the B.S. degree in kinesiology with a physical education
teaching emphasis are specified in the MSU Academic Programs catalog. The components of study
include:

MSU Requirements. All MSU requirements for the undergraduate degree.

KIN major. Core courses in the kinesiology major.

Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) emphasis courses.
Courses required for the physical education teaching program emphasis.

Teaching Minor.
Courses associated with the teaching minor, completed as part of the undergraduate degree
program. Students must select a teaching minor for grades 6-12 and complete all associated
requirements. A list of available teaching
minors is posted on the Department of Teacher Education web site. Be sure to check the
current supply and demand information provided by the College of Education.
Students who complete the B.S. degree in kinesiology with a physical education teaching emphasis must
continue in a 5th-year
post-BA teacher
certification program administered by MSU's Department of Teacher
Education to become eligible for State of Michigan teacher certification (KIN students are assigned to
the
secondary team). Additional information

Students may also choose to complete the teacher
certification requirements at another college or university.
