Conference and Workshop Policies
If invited, interns may attend in-services, conferences or workshops in their school districts. Interns may be excused from their classrooms for a maximum of 2 days during the year to attend other professional conferences, with the joint approval of the Mentor Teacher and Field Instructor. In order to attend, interns must complete the application procedure as directed below.
In addition to the two days allowed, interns may be excused from their classrooms to attend professional conferences (a) If the Mentor Teacher invites the intern to attend a conference with her/him and the Field Instructor and Coordinator are informed in advance, or (b) if the intern is making a formal presentation at the conference and the Mentor Teacher, Field Instructor and Coordinator are informed in advance.
Interns will not be excused from the TE 801, 802, 803, and 804 seminars for any conferences or workshops. Interns should report on all conferences as directed by the Field Instructor in a written and/or oral report to other interns in the Guided Practice Seminar.
Interns should apply, two or three weeks in advance, for approval to attend a conference. Do this by addressing an email to the mentor teacher. The email should provide the information indicated in the list below. If the mentor teacher approves, s/he should forward the intern's email to the field instructor. If the field instructor concurs, then the field instructor should forward the email to the Cluster leader for the record. If necessary, the equivalent process can be achieved by passing paper.
