Opportunities for Sharing Work
Since LeaPS is a working conference, there will be many formal and informal opportunities
for participants to discuss different aspects of learning progressions in science.
The conference, and thus these discussions, will be organized around the 4 strands:
defining, assessing, modeling, and using learning progressions.
Plenary sessions
During the conference, plenary sessions will be used to highlight each of the four
strands. Several papers from each strand will be selected for presentation during
the plenary sessions to give all conference attendees a chance to hear about different
aspects of learning progression work.
Breakout sessions
Much of the discussion during the conference will occur in breakout groups focused
on a single aspect of learning progressions work. Papers addressing each of the
four strands will be selected to be formally presented in the breakout sessions.
Because much of the time in breakout sessions will be spent discussing questions
critical to a particular strand, there will be additional opportunities for participants
to bring in questions, concerns, examples, and suggestions from their own work.
Thus, all participants, whether they are presenting formally or not, will have opportunities
to share their work on learning progressions.
Graduate student poster session
On Thursday evening, there will be a graduate student poster session and reception
to highlight graduate students' work on learning progressions. Graduate students
who participate in the poster session may apply for competitive travel grants to
support their attendance at the conference.
Proceedings
Papers from all proposals accepted for presentation at the conference will be included
in the proceedings of the conference. The proceedings will be available to conference
participants on a CD-ROM and to the public via the conference website.
Book
Several papers from each strand will be chosen to appear as chapters in a book that
will be published following the conference. Selection of the chapters will be based
upon papers submitted to the proceedings.
